Managing Chores

3 - Manage Chores Pop Up.png

The goal is to have enough chores in the chore app so your kids can do chores daily. That usually means about 20-30 chores assigned to each child. The Chore App will remind you when you’re running low on chores, and it’s really easy to add chores in at any time!

Steps to making a custom chore:

  1. Pick an icon - we have over 70 of them to choose from

  2. Name the chore - keep it short and simple

  3. Set the frequency - how often would you like this chore done? The Chore App relies on this to decide when to assign a chore. You may need to adjust this from time to time.

  4. Set number of “keys” - we recommend one-key chores. It’s easier to balance, and means you’re keeping the chores small and simple.

  5. Set who can do the chore - deselect any child who cannot do the chore.

  6. Hit save - that’s it!

Managing Rewards

8 - Gerald's Store Pop Up.png

Rewards are yours to create, and we recommend being creative. For instance, you could buy some fun mini cereal boxes and let your kids buy them with coins for an occasional breakfast treat. Or you could let your kids pay for the next family pizza night. It’s up to you, so have some fun with it!

Kids earn an average amount of coins per key. Although they get different amounts from each chest, we’ve designed it to average out every thirty chests (don’t tell the kids!). When creating a reward, you will see how many keys it will take to earn enough coins to buy it. You should use the key amount to decide how many chores the rewards should be worth. We do not estimate the time it will take, because it varies based on how many chores your child does per day, so you will have to consider that when setting the prices for rewards. You can always update the price of a reward, and you can give your kids extra keys if they’ve been doing a great job.

Rewards are created just like chores, except instead of frequency and keys, you only have to set a value. Remember, beside the value you will see the average amount of keys it will take to get the reward.

KIDS

Kids are rewarded for doing chores in a variety of ways. First, they get a key that unlocks a chest. Chests give kids coins to save up and put towards rewards, as well as ingredients to use in potions (more on potions below). Kids are also rewarded for logging in daily - a resident fly buzzes over the screen, and kids collect flies and eventually get to play a mini-game!

Potions and Ingredients

There are four potion types in the game.

  1. Red Potion - This potion is used in the main screen of the kid’s room and will cause a bonus fly to spawn. It takes 5 flies to trigger the mini-game.

  2. Green Potion - This potion is used in the chore book screen. It allows the child to re-spin if they got a chore they don’t want to do. The discarded chore is added back to the list of overdue chores, so they may get it again the very next day.

  3. Blue Potion - This lets children x-ray three chests, which gives them the ability to choose the one with the most coins. It’s worth noting that this potion does not increase the average coins earned each month.

  4. Orange Potion - This potion is used in the treasure room and turns all chests gold until one is tapped. The next chest opened will give out double the rewards. This will increase the average amount of coins earned each month.

Mini-Games

Mini-games are unlocked by purchased all the rewards in a reward pack. The first mini-game unlocked is called Pest Panic, which is a quirky and fun tap-based game that takes about 2-3 minutes to play. Mini-games are usually played once every 5 days. Each day that a child logs in, they will be able to tap on a fly. It takes five tapped flies to activate a mini-game. Once a mini-game has been activated. The child must find the right chest to start the mini-game. Each play rewards extra coins and potion ingredients, in addition to any coins and ingredients in the chest that triggered the game.

Managing kids and chores

The Chore App is designed to automate most things, so once everything is set up and your kids are doing chores you won’t have to do much. There will be times when you want to manage things yourself. No problem! We’ve made that as easy as possible. If you want a chore to be done right away, you can assign it to a child and the app will give it out next. If you see a chore coming up on the app that is actually not ready to be done, you can pause it for a few days until you think it will be ready to do. We realize that we’re not able to predict when chores are actually ready or not, so it’s up to you to adjust chore frequency to match your lifestyle and household needs. The other thing that you will need to do is confirm when rewards have been given out. The great thing about the chore app is that if you forget to assign something it will still give out a chore based on the frequency you’ve set, so your kids won’t be stopped from doing chores. In the event that your child gets a chore that can’t be done right away, no worries. Just go to the parents’ room, reject the chore and your child will be able to spin for another one.
