 The Chore App FAQ


How do I add new devices to my house?

The code is not emailed to you, it is shown directly on the screen shortly after tapping on the button. You should see a load symbol while the code is being generated on the server. Once the code has been created, it will appear on the screen and you can either tap the "Send Code" button or just copy the code onto the other device. We have some ideas to make connecting devices much easier in the future.

The steps are as follows.

*Make sure you have a good connection to the internet.

  1. Go to the "Connected Devices" screen in the settings section and tap the "Get Code" button.

  2. Wait on the screen for a few seconds. You'll see a loading icon.

  3. Copy the code or use the "Send Code" button to send the code to the other user.

  4. Enter the code on the other device and tap the "Yes" button to confirm you have the right house.

  5. Last step! On the admin device, tap the envelope icon in the parent's screen and approve the new device... phew, that's a lot of steps!

How to reject incomplete chores?

Why do children get keys right away? This is because we want children to feel in control of the app experience and getting an immediate reward is far more engaging and effective than having to wait for a parent to confirm the chore. Once a chore is done however, it can be confirmed or rejected by a parent. Parents have until the end of the day to confirm the chore has been complete, or reject it. The goal of The Chore App is to make children responsible for completing chores and to make it as automated as possible for parents.

  • Confirming Chores - Chores automatically get confirmed at the end of the day, so parents don't have to do anything if the chore was done correctly. And you can always make sure that chores are completed properly without having to touch the app. Also, if you would like your child to do more than two chores in one day, all you have to do is go and confirm the chore and the child will be able to immediately spin for more chores.

  • Rejecting Chores - If the chore was not completely properly, it's best to address this with the child and make sure they are doing the chore properly. If they are unable to complete the chore, or unwilling to, rejecting the chore will remove an appropriate amount of keys. This means that even if the child has used all the keys, they will have to earn back the rejected keys with the next chore/s.

As explained, the goal is to make completing chores as simple as possible and parents only have to check that the chore was done properly and correct any issues without needing to touch the app.

 

How do you confirm rewards?

Once a child has made a purchase, a parent has to go into the parents section, and into the rewards screen to confirm any pending transactions. Simply tapping on the reward will bring up a confirmation popup for the parent to confirm the reward or reject it. Rejecting a reward will refund the coins to the child. Confirming the reward will simply remove it from the list.
